I enjoyed the recent article on Multi-fuel Spin-On oil filter adapters. I’d like to add one item to the list of possible upgrades to military vehicle oil systems- actually any vehicle’s oil system, multi-fuel, military or otherwise. The addition of an oil accumulator can be very beneficial.

After reading the Tech Tips in MVM #125, I was surprised to read of a person who has the same problem as me. “Keeps On Ticking” hit home, as I too have a 1953 M38A1 that made a ticking noise.

I saw the Tech Tip on the Ticking noise in an M 38A1. (MVM, #125) I have a 1954 M38A1 which, when I purchased it, had a similar ticking sound...almost like the tappet noise heard on old Fords on a cold morning.

I have a 1945 GPW that my father bought in 1946. I have restored it and the engine has been rebuilt. At about 500 miles on the engine, a ticking that I think is a sticky valve lifter has begun.
